FAQ

  • Booking an appointment is simple — just choose the option that suits you best:

    ●      Online: If you are an existing client, feel free to book instantly through our contact page at a time that works for you.

    ●      Email: Reach out to me at info@yasmillerpsychology.com.au with your preferred time or any questions.

  • If you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician.

Book an appointment with your GP and let them know you’d like to see Yas Miller Clinical Psychology.

Your GP can either send the referral directly to me or provide a copy for you to forward.

You’re also welcome to see me privately without a referral if you prefer to access sessions without a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

  • Your first session is a gentle introduction to therapy — a chance for you and your psychologist to get to know each other. There’s no pressure and no need to prepare anything in advance — just come as you are.

    Here’s what you can expect:

    ●      Getting to know you —  discuss what’s brought you to therapy or specific concerns you’d like to explore.

    ●      Discussing personal history — explore your background, life experiences, and any key factors that might be influencing your current functioning.

    ●      Goal setting — identify what you’d like to achieve/ get out of therapy.

    ●      Understanding the process — explaining how therapy works, what future sessions might look like, and answer any questions you may have.

    ●      Discuss confidentiality — the limits of confidentiality will be explained, including the situations where information must be shared (for example, if there are concerns about safety or legal obligations).

  • Yes, I offer secure and confidential telehealth (online video) sessions for clients who prefer or require remote support.

  • Standard therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes long. Assessment sessions vary in length and will be tailored to suit your individual needs.

However, you may be eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) under the Medicare Better Access Scheme, which, provides a current Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session (from 1st July 2025). • Yes, if you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim back part of your session fee. Contact your private health fund to see if you are eligible.

  • I understand that unexpected situations can arise, and sometimes you may need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. I kindly ask for at least 72 hours' notice for any changes or cancellations - this helps us offer the time to someone else who may need it. Late cancellation fees apply as follows:

    ●      Less than 24 hours' notice - Full session fee

    ●      24 to 72 hours' notice - 50% of the session fee

  • Therapy length varies depending on your individual goals and needs — some people benefit from short-term support, while others prefer ongoing long-term support.

  • To confirm your first appointment, a $100 deposit is required. This amount is applied to your session fee and helps reserve your spot.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide notice to avoid forfeiting the deposit.

Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive a secure electronic intake and consent form to complete, which also allows you to provide your details ahead of your first session.

You’ll receive an invoice on the day of your appointment and payment is due after your session.

Your Medicare rebate will then be processed to your nominated account, usually within 24–48 hours.
